Puff Quilts

Have you ever made a Puff quilt? (Also known as a Biscuit or Bubble quilt.) I haven't made one yet, but these quilts are definitely tempting me.

This pretty ruffled baby quilt above is from katielolson on Etsy.

Another baby quilt, this one is from Moonpatch in Portugal. These puffs appear to have more stuffing in them than in the pink quilt.

This one has a very different look: a loosely filled, ruffled baby quilt from Awaiting Ada on Etsy.

I like this version with buttons from Honey Bear Lane. She calls it "Hard Candy."

And here's one in a circle shape from Pinterest

This crocheted version is from Andrea at Craft Disasters. She describes how to make it in her post.
This one is definitely not a disaster. It looks dreamy soft!

  1. Looks like the puff quilts are becoming popular. At the recent Bayberry Guild quilt show on Cape Cod, the viewers' choice quilt was a puff quilt -- the first I've seen in a show. Yes, very tempting, for me especially the one with the buttons.

  2. I made a puff quilt for a rocking chair cushion and I hated every minute of it. Maybe it is just me, but it was a pain to make. I will never make another, but I will enjoy seeing what others make. Maybe I just did it wrong and that is why I had such a hard time. Who knows! It was 20 years ago.

  3. Wow, do they ever bring back memories - 30+ years ago, new quilter, books on different types of quilts, cathedral window, puff quilts...
Nope, never made one but it's nice to see an updated version.

  4. I did! I made one years ago when my kids were little. They are very heavy, but extremely cute.:)

  5. Love these! I made a few puff quilts (we used to call them biscuit quilts)years ago. A fun process.

  6. I made one last year, it was a pain in the neck! I used the about.com tutorial and it was a good one, but the bulkiness of the quilt was hard to deal with. I think if I wait a while and forget how difficult it was I might make another one lol!
